Depending on the education, experience, and qualifications of the selected candidate, this position will be hired as a Clinica Nurse Specialist or as a Clinical Nurse Educator.

In collaboration with education and nursing leadership team members, this position will provide department and organization education, consultation, and leadership to advance evidence-based practice and quality outcomes. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, assess, implement, and evaluate department/unit-based and organizational learning activities, work in collaboration with managers, staff, nursing leadership, and inter-professional teams to ensure innovative, evidence-based and cost-effective solutions while achieving high quality outcomes.

The Clinical Nurse Specialist/Educator will be a leader in planned change while working within the spheres of patient, nurse, and organization. Will be a leader for a program or area of nursing practice. Utilizes specialized knowledge and skills within major areas of focus, such as patient / family, nurses and nursing practice, and the organization / system. Typically, it partners with the nurse manager in leading the nursing clinical practice area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required for the CNE role.

  • A Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) is required for the CNS role.

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the state of California.

  • Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) license issued by the state of California, or licensure / certification in another advanced nurse practice discipline. Required as a CNS, preferred as a CNE.

  • BLS/CPR certification at time of hire with commitment to get BART within six (6) months of hire date.

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience, including three (3) years of relevant inpatient acute care RN experience.

  • In-depth knowledge of one or more clinical specialty areas, to include diagnoses, treatments, standards of practice and patient / family educational consulting and resources.

  • Advanced knowledge of methodology for conducting evidence-based research, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

  • Advanced critical thinking and problem-solving skills to assess highly-complex issues and develop multiple options for resolution.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide education, training, and direction to nursing staff, and to develop positive working relationships with patients, families, employees, and outside agencies as required.

  • Ability to develop learning to a wide range of audiences and cultures using adult learning strategies and a variety of instructional methodologies.

  • Advanced skills in written and verbal communications, with the ability to convey complex and / or sensitive information in a clear and concise manner.

  • Proficient with information systems and computer programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Three (3) years of recent and relevant educator experience.

  • Clinical Nurse Leader certificate.

  • Quality Improvement Methodology (Lean, Six Sigma, etc.) and previous experience in quality/performance improvement.

  • Regulatory affairs experience.

  • Staff education and experience with Just-in-Time teaching and learning strategies.

  • Experience in a teaching hospital.

  • Experience working in a Magnet Hospital.

  • ART or ACLS certification at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six months of hire date.

    SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.
  • Variable work hours (requiring AM and PM shift coverage and not a strict 8-5 schedule) on the needs and activities of the unit.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $112,100 - $216,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $53.69 - $103.69

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
