Literacy Specialist - Long Term Substitute - Brookside Lower School

A Literacy Specialist is needed for the spring of the 2023/24 academic year (March-June 2024). This temporary position will be working with grades Senior Kindergarten - second grade. The Literacy Specialist provides early intervention support and remediation services to students in Senior Kindergarten through grade five who are struggling with literacy, specifically reading.

Responsibilities include:

Working closely and collaboratively with various constituencies to identify and support students struggling with developing literacy; teaching small groups of students to support the development of associated reading skills; consulting and collaborating with homeroom teachers in the area of reading to coordinate the Literacy Support Program.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • A Michigan Elementary Teaching Certificate
  • A Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education; MA degree in Reading or Literacy Specialist experience
  • Orton-Gillingham and/ or another early literacy training
  • Experience a plus, ability to administer, evaluate and interpret diagnostic assessments as related to issues of literacy.
  • Willingness to continue professional growth and development with relevant course work and/or professional training.
  • A commitment to independent school education
